Watching talented people pour themselves into work every day going unseen is so draining. Retention drops, morale dips, productivity falters… and yet the effort never stops.

Where does the disconnect really begin? Leadership? Operations? Or somewhere in between? And who’s truly accountable for making employees feel valued and supported?

I would honestly love to hear from you… from both sides. Employee and employer: what’s one change that would make you feel seen, heard, and empowered at work?

I think it’s undoubtably leadership‘s job to make sure employees feel valued. If these employees are working so hard and are so dedicated yet are not being appreciated. That is a major failure on the part of leadership.

100% falls on leadership then trickles down to how the operation runs, with bad leadership, theres bad operation and then execution feels extremely pressured. At least that's how I felt in my previous role. A little over a year, primed to do more, was consistently undermined and dismissed.

I think every employee has different motivations. So someone may want more flexibility while another may value more opportunities to grow. As a manager, I think it’s very important to really try to understand as many of our people as possible and talk to them to find out what they value and want. Sometimes a raise really isn’t feasible because business is tight, but if you explain it, then most people understand.

I am struggling to create the ideal environment, in which my team feels motivated and happy. I can’t hire new staff and we are all stretched thin. I am EXHAUSTED. And that makes it all the more difficult to do anything more than what needs to be done. I know it’s bad for me not to encourage them all the time, but I am pouring with no replenishment 😔

What Manager 2 said above is very true—it’s different for every person. That said, I do think acknowledging people’s hard work and letting them know they’re appreciated goes a long way with most individuals. People simply want to feel valued.
