We stopped between 2-2.5 years - so later than recommended. My daughted was obsesssed and would cry and couldn't sleep without it. They became a big crutch for peaceful sleeping and we didn't want the pain of weaning.
We went from "pacifer on demand" --> only when sleeping --> overnight only at around 1-1.5 years. We then coasted for a bit. Then finally when she was at a point where she could understand us better, we tried taking pacifiers away, explained they went away and she shockingly accepted it easily and all is good now.
This is what we’ve been doing as well. Daughter is 20 months and we’ve gotten rid of it And the first two nights were somehow amazing. The last two weeks though, she wakes up and goes absolutely bonkers demanding mom. We don’t know what to do. I wish we would have but the bullet like others below and just never introduced it in the first place.
Never introduced it to my first two. On my third and he only uses it at naps and bedtime, mainly due to teething so much.
Before 5 months. He was pretty good about not having it
Wow. Mine is about to turn 3 and obsessed with them. Dentist told us not a huge issue contrary to popular belief but I have my doubts. Somewhat dreading the battle that is about to ensue with taking them away..
4 kids. Have never used a pacifier even once.
Same here
Never used a pacifier. I was born in Scandinavia where it is very common (I had one) but in the UK it is a class issue: it is a signifier of low class to use them so my MIL would not allow it😂
Both kids lost interest in them between 6-9 months
I stopped once I had a kid of my own.
Lmao
Planning to phase it out over the coming months. Daughter is 18 months. She breastfeeds at bedtime which soothes her and then will have the dummy/pacifier in. We'll use it as a crutch while we move her to her room and transition her off breastfeeding, and then aim to transition off at around 2 years. That's the plan, we'll see what happens.
