This is a tough one and you're not alone. When news is your life, it's almost like a twisted form of FOMO kicks in. As if the world may crumble the second you let your mind think about something happier. You have to remind yourself that this isn't the case. You can step away as often as you need; nothing is happening you won't be able to catch up on quickly. Give yourself a break or you'll burn out <3
Hey I have the same problem, I feel it is because of the ease with which we get information, that is the phone is like the injector of people who use heroin, and the phone is always with us, I think a good strategy would be to turn off the phone for periods, I have not succeeded, if you do let me know how it went.
For this type of problem I recommend minimizing the use of social networks, I know that for you as a journalist it is difficult, but the best way is to create a ring of social networks, where you leave out the most influential ones such as Twitter or Facebook. And so little by little you will avoid filling yourself with information during the day.
I go out for a walk. After sitting down for so long or just running around to get things done makes my body stiff. Going on a slow paced leisure walk always help me slow down on a busy day. Getting out of the building is key for me to try and stop thinking of work for a short while. I suggest you grab some headphones listen to your favourite music (I suggest calming music as our work is already fast paced) or your favourite podcast. Work will still be there when you are back and you can easily get back on track ☺️
