What are the exit options for T&E law? I’m at a firm and love what I do, but I’m making 135k in MCOL and feel I’m underpaid. Trust officer? Jump firms? I don’t want to work in financial planning or at a CPA firm, and my city does not have many family offices. I’m also a CPA if that makes a difference.

There aren’t a ton other than other firms.

Experience level? $135k doesn’t seem particularly underpaid for T&E outside the largest firms.

3 years, but worked as a tax CPA for 6 years prior.

Honestly that seems pretty reasonable.

For context my wife is in the ~170k range for a second tier HCOL area with 10 YOE. From the group of people she networks with it seems most are in the 160-200k range for high end boutiques and smaller NALP250 firms.

It’s just not a high paying area because at the end of the day, it’s really hard to get a significant number of hours at the high rates that attorneys making 300-400k bill at.

Even my wife’s boutique runs into billing pressure from clients who are (or expect to be) federally taxable either on rate structures or total fees.

Maybe I switch to general tax then? I’m not cut out for M&A

Do you have exempt org exp?

Would it be hard to get a exp associate role in advisory at a B4 as someone with about 10 months in audit at EY, 7 months experience in corporate accounting at a F300 and CPA? Hated my time at the F300 but had thought the grass would be greener in industry. I’m starting a financial analyst position at a major hospital system in my area soon and want to stick with that for a couple years before making a transition but was curious if I just don’t have the right experience for a role in advisory.

He never gets anything done. Doesn’t answer emails half the time. The one thing he’s done was take out a blurb that threatened our eligibility for patent renewal.
We have another company taking over in January, but I still have some pretty important dev needs until then and I can’t get him to do a thing. I truly try to give him all he needs.
