They are exploring their environment and sometimes that means utter chaos. If they are books that are valuable to you, move them higher for the next few years. You can make that toddler height environment less stressful for you. Mine is 3.5 and was removing books and stacking them in the kitchen just last night.
Also if you don’t already have the Wonder Weeks app, get it, you still have another 6 months of these developmental “leaps” and the app pinpoints the age when these cognitive advancements (and fussiness) can be expected.
We switched ours up so that the bottom shelves are for her stuff, and others we just practiced w her putting stuff back if she took it off, now she’s 15 months and will put stuff back when she’s done with it/or just not touch my books and only goes for her own. My advice would be to be patient and practice w them vs removing things totally. you’ll be surprised how much they catch on!
My son is a huge fan of knocking down books so we got him this.
