35 is young in my book!!!!
Depends on your income level. So the decision between the 2 comes down to tax level. If you expect to make more later in life then Roth makes sense now as you’re in a lower tax bracket. If you already make a good amount traditional is better as you will be in a lower tax bracket in retirement.
I finally got my 401k investing to 10% when I was close to 30. I hit 100k invested in my early 30s. Slow and steady has been my motto. My suggestion is that you track your progress.
If you are young, do roth.
I’m 35
I would do as much roth as you can unless you're close to retirement. Tax rates are at historic lows. There's no guarantee that your tax burden will be lower when you retire even if your income is lower and the tax free gains will likely outpace any potential benefit you'll get from taking the deduction now.
