What do you say to prospective employers during an interview about why you are looking for a new job without disparaging your current employer?

I try to focus on things like opportunities for advancement. There isn't a lot of movement or professional development opportunities where I am currently/ It's also a great way to see if the interviewers can speak to your potential growth in the new position.

Well, you usually want to talk about things that you're looking forward to in the future, rather than the things that you didn't like about the past. So, try to bring up opportunities for growth that you're excited about, building a specific future vision, and things of that nature. Does that make sense?

If you are still gainfully employed in a position, it is easy to answer that question without bad-mouthing your employer. Simply say that you enjoy working in your current position, but feel the need to look at other opportunities that may be available. You may want to say that you sometimes feel that you may have reached the apex of your career where you are, both in salary, title and professional growth. If you are interviewing at a larger facility, that is a good reason to cite. If you are looking to move from an institution to a private clinic, or vice versa, say so. In short, find a few factual facts and highlight those. That keeps you out of the weeds and on the right path.

like

Say how you love your current team and the work you do however, you've reached the point in the job where you're looking for growth and advancement.

Focus on outlining what you want out of your next role: what you want to learn, experience, impact.

Just want to get some advice….I’ve been with my company for 6 years. Our company split into two divisions and brought on a senior manager and a director. Both are not at all knowledgeable with what our department does. In the last two years they have been here…our scores from our teams surveys have dropped over 50% YOY. They claim “that’s normal and at least we are on the negative of numbers”. I want to look elsewhere now. It’s terrible here.

Job opportunity (mgr title, 4-6 yr exp needed) in Internal Audit (w/ data analytics exposure) at one of the largest private companies in Chicago. I interviewed with them (director and vp) till last round and decided to pursue a different opportunity. Great and caring people who seems to support what you wanna do at this position. Since it’s private there is a lot of room to create and build from the best practice. lmk if you are interested or know someone needs help. Thanks!

Hello, I need your advice. I am currently in management in primary care. I have a strong management background in specialty hospital practice management. Recently some leadership positions have become available and I feel as if my leader has discouraged me from applying. His take is that I should take certain steps before applying, however I have the experience from my previous employment in this leadership role. Would I be overstepping to apply anyways ?
