For me personally the most difficult group is juniors and seniors retaking a math class.
I think 7th and 9th are the hardest. Both groups are known to have behavior issues.
My absolute favorite math time is pre-algebra because it is so pivotal to their future critical thinking.
You must teach in a school where kids behave. JR high got so miserable I left for high school after a long time.
I'd worked with math students from 6-12 through differential equations.
I've taught pre-algebra through cal 2. (No stats or euclidean geometry).
The most difficult thing to teach for me was pre-cal, there is sooo much material that has to be covered (especially stuff they don't teach in algebra 2 that is crucial to calculus) and the pace is insane.
That and kids who look for a calculator when you say "so one minus one is...."
