What stack have you typically used on projects?

A comment in the pinned thread about ACN being Tableau heavy got me wondering if certain firms end up landing projects at least in part on expertise with particular app/platform flavors

- Tableau vs PowerBI vs Looker
- R vs Python vs something fringe like Julia
- AWS vs Azure vs OCI vs ... etc etc

Tableau, SQL Server/RDS, Alteryx for POC, Python, R, spark on my team but not across the org.

Power BI, SQL Server, Azure, homegrown python for virtually everything else.

Both of these orgs are led by former consultants and both relied heavily on the tooling most familiar to them when building out our stack — especially the former.

Agreed- Tableau/SQL/Python/Spark is the stack I would use with clients

It is absolutely the case that firms land projects due to expertise on specific platforms. I’d say this is more the norm than not when your buyer is a Sr Director or below.

In some firms, I’ve used Tableau, but for the most part, companies use Power BI in the world of fundraising analytics from my experience. Our coding language has consistently been “flavors” of SQL

Managers+ in Industry, what do you honestly think of applicants who worked at the Big 4/PA for only one year? The rule of thumb has been stay until senior associate at the very least, but I’ve seen a great number of 1st or 2nd years leave and get the same great roles as Seniors. I’m surprised it didn’t affect their prospects at all.

Hello, I am seeking new entry level work as Helpdesk Analyst or Technical CSR staff (onsite or remote ) based in London. Have overall past work experiences (1 year) in ICT sector work with public services nature as well as customer services operations but most “entry level” work still want 2/3 years work experiences or last 2 years of job references.

So I matched with a guy on tinder. He started talking to me, we decided to meet next week, Everything was good (just chatting on WhatsApp) and then he just totally stopped talking to me. I didn’t notice until a couple of days had passed… I sent a ‘Hi’ and he totally ignored me. Obviously ghosted but I don’t get it …

I’m a millennial and the more I have to manage millennials the more I find every cliche about us to be true. Self centered, emotional, insecure, entitled. My heart goes out to every manager

This may be dumb, but how do you negotiate PTO in a new offer? Are companies usually accepting and flexible about it? My last 2 jobs had unlimited PTO and the one before that had a few more days than what is being currently offered.

Additional Posts in Data & Analytics Consultants

People are calling me a rockstar for helping setup CI/CD pipelines for a cloud data stack and standing up and teaching my peers, including architect and principal level folks how to use source control. Every data practitioner I've worked with over the last 3 years I've had to teach GIT. Been consulting for 6 years. Why are data people hesitant or uncomfortable with checking code in? I just don't get it.

I want to leave Deloitte and thinking about going to EY. Is there some things I should know before changing Does EY have a restriction on private vs public because I would ideally like to work on both?

Do any of the top consulting firms have analytics roles (preferably not super technical) that don’t require weekly travel?

Python pros, trying to teach myself python and I’ve got a problem where i have two files, input file and an output file. The input file contains 4 lines of characters (letters, spaces, etc) and i want to iterate through each character, and swap them for one another and then write the new set of lines to the out . Any tips? I know how to read/write the files, just can’t get the iterating and swapping characters part down

Any data scientist with 5+ years of experience willing to provide some recruiting guidance for a data scientist job switch to a FAANG?

How to learn tableau quickly

It's painful waiting on industry job start date (1 month down waiting, 1 month to go)... Like I've enjoyed my time at my firm and everything, but every week I work here I'm making 29% of what I would be if I was at my new company already... First world problems but the struggle is real

In a few months I will have 3 years of experience in data analytics/science . I have 2 years experience as a data analyst at a F100 company and year as a Sr. Data Analytics consultant at D. My base pay is around 110k . Am I underpaid? I also have an MS in Analytics from a top school and I am highly proficient Python coder / SQl dev with a good GitHub. I know Linux, Python , sql and aws and dash boarding very very well. What do I need to do to increase my salary? What should it be and what title?

Anyone here does data science related work?

Are there any online certificates/courses you think are worth pursuing in order to develop baseline understanding of analytics/AI focused product commercialization? Thinking of BCG DV toolkit

Currently focused on "Visual Analytics", but what is the best way to keep career trajectory moving upwards? Currently making $120k. Is there more room to grow in the Business Intelligence/Power BI/Tableau space? What sort of role would you consider a "ceiling" for an exit opp as a BI consultant? Anything where you can make $200k+?

Should I consider trying to make a change? I'd like to grow beyond dashboard building and start playing a more strategic role. Maybe move into product roles?

My SO has a PhD in mechanical engineering and wants to pivot to data science. He considered OMSCS but doesn’t want to do a masters after a PhD. Any boot camps that have successfully helped people move to data science? I’m a data scientist myself but have never done a boot camp before.
