People join consulting to get exposure to a wide variety of tasks/industries. Once you've found your calling, you leave. What's the point here? Tech companies will obviously pay their coders better than consulting companies because they're in a much better place to monetize their technical resources

I agree OP. As I said, tech within consulting has a lesser pay especially for delivery. It's just that its consultants who sell these and bring direct business so they are considered important. If tech is your expertise, then do LC and hop into Big Tech
If your response is anger about not making enough when you work in consulting, you got a host of issues to work out.
Consulting isn’t really built for long term ICs. The entire biz model is predicated on pyramid growth.
Why are you angry again?
When will people understand that your worth in the market is your unique skillset and the impact you can make to a companies financial performance. Consultants below management level (arguably) have neither of those two characteristics. Point being: its not a matter of just "choosing" the right path, it's what you're cut out for...
