Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months.It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup.In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. Big one is uncertainty associated with it. Majorly with ML and DL methods. It’s all about experimenting and many ppl want guarantee results.
2 main ways from my exp-
- Find use case that’s been done before and properly scope out existing data to ensure it can be done at this client (predicting machine failure for preventative maintenance)
- Unsupervised learning more focused on insights than direct predictions/results (clustering customers, network analysis between patients and doctors)
Overhyped branding and mediocre talent! We need to know where to use what and which problems are bang for the buck.
Setting and Managing right expectation. D&A has two aspects:
1. Demand - business is strategically inclined and committed to use fact based decision making and willing to spend on tech
2. Supply - technology roadmap is aligned to business strategy and able to show-me-the value to business
More often, it’s difficult to find talent that can balance-convince-communicate business and technology to pursue shared objectives.
