Hi. I'm a final year btech student, and I recently got an offer from PwC India for the post of Sr. Analyst, with the package of 4.5lpa fixed + some yearly performance bonus. I have one that’s basically a list of jobs for government applications, one that’s more skills focused for jobs that are a stretch, and even one with my sister in law’s address so I can apply to jobs in Florida.
I keep 2 versions too, but honestly the “nice looking” one mostly matters if a human is gonna see it first. For ATS apps, I’d keep the boring clean version as the default and only use a prettier layout when you’re sending it directly to someone or putting it on a portfolio page.
What’s helped me is making one master resume and then a slimmed-down presentation copy with a bit more spacing, better section order, and a small personal summary at the top. No tables, no weird icons, just enough polish that it doesn’t look like a generic word doc from 2014.
If your core domains are already covered in ATS versions, the portfolio one can be more about vibe + readability than keyword stuffing. I’d only worry if the public version makes your experience harder to scan at a glance, like tiny text or crammed bullets. I’ve also used ResumeJudge once just to sanity-check whether my “clean” version was still parsing right before I put it on my site.
