As the leader of a “4man shop”, I much prefer this to endless interviewing for positions I am clearly over qualified for. We only have one or two clients, they love us because we truly care about them and are we able to make more than most of the offers I see on these posts. I feel that if something shows up that makes us want to shut down/fold in great, but in the meantime, I would rather go this route, than stand in line for little or nothing. There are plenty of businesses out there that need smart marketers that can make a difference for their business.
Not entirely sure. I think there’s definitely more work you need to do in order to establish your own micro agency, but given the simple truth that agencies are far more ageist than clients, I’d say you’re better off trying to work directly with clients rather than agencies.
Maybe short term it’s easier to freelance but setting yourself up as an agency will probably pay off more in the longer term.
Following.
As a person who has worked with some of these 3-person teams- there is a lot of administration and organization that comes with this setup, which is not something that creatives want to do, and is why someone like me becomes involved. If you just want to do the work, keep freelancing.
Yeah, that is kind of the conclusion I’m coming to. I like networking and getting some work and then working on it as a creative. But all the administrative and making sure we hit forecasted quarterly numbers and hiring and firing people. I’m not sure as quite my cup of tea.this might be a decision though out of default with being older and it’s my only option. But I may give the freelance thing a try for a bit more.
Be a freelancer but set yourself up as an S-Corp and have the agency pay your entity. Best of both worlds.
