True, but the US Marine Corps is far less cutthroat than A&M.
Alix is more polished than A&M, but not softer. At PMD level, it felt like a glorified body shop run through cliques, loyalty and sponsorships. It’s all about the “boys club”. Growth exists, but not as a clean meritocracy. It may work if you are close to or post retirement and no longer care about building a real career. I personally couldn’t wait to leave, and joining was the worst professional decision of my life. So yes, less openly cutthroat than A&M maybe, but still highly political. The knives are just hidden better. Frankly, I’m surprised they’re hiring, because many former colleagues are telling me the firm is not doing well.
A couple of follow up questions on A&M since that was noted…
Some folks from my practice joined at more junior levels (Director I think) and haven’t heard this feedback yet. Is it different at PMD?
Also, when you all say variable income, how variable? Like $250k base and $0-1M bonus? I just made that up.
Thanks.
