I'd say communication skills have helped me the most. What I've come to realize is that in business a lot of technical, or "hard," skills are more or less the baseline. They're required, but they don't make a big difference. What can boost you is being able to communicate with people. People may undervalue what would be considered "soft skills," but those are the ones that can make a difference.

Yeah that’s very true, thank you for sharing!
Learning to advocate for and believe in myself. I used to let self-doubt keep me from pursuing better roles, pushing for raises and all that sort of thing. After I got laid off a couple years ago, I was so desperate for work that I stopped caring about hitting 100% of a description's experience requirements and just applied anyway. And guess what - I ended up getting the job and a lot more money.

Yes that’s one of my main problems is self-doubt, and it’s a hard one to get out of, but it’s amazing what can happen when you don’t doubt!

For me, communication changed everything. I realised technical knowledge only got me so far, but being able to explain risk, influence managers, and hold difficult conversations moved my career forward. I started volunteering for tougher conversations instead of avoiding them.

That’s good! Well done!
