The stress of this job ruined my life.
The stress has lead to an eating disorder that I can’t get control of. I’ve lost 25 pounds since starting at the firm two and a half years ago. I am 20 pounds less than I was in high school... I don’t know how to get control again. Even when the stress lays off I can’t eat more due to being used to being busy for almost 9 months out of the year...

For anyone who practices tax lit in the US Tax Court, what’s your experience with the independent office of appeals? They don’t seem quite that “independent” to me and so far, I’ve only had one appeals officer who seemed knowledgeable and nice. It’s been a real headache. Debevoise Hong Kong is hiring a tax associate (2nd to 5th years, but there may be flexibility in class year), ideally with experience in funds tax. Comp is the latest DPW/Cravath scale plus a COLA each year and moving costs. I'm currently there, and I'm happy to chat if anyone is interested.

What are the major differences between being a tax associate at a firm vs big four? Currently a state tax court clerk deciding what to apply to for next year.

I've decided to enroll in NYU's tax LLM program part-time this fall. I'm currently at a V50 firms and I'm in the middle of lateral interviews. Would updating my application with this news hurt or help my offer prospects?

Has anyone made the transition from law to public accounting or tax in industry? Are you happier? I’ve been thinking about making such a move since there seems to be more remote opportunities in accounting. Advice or talk me off the ledge?
(My background: Big 4 SALT > State AG’s office (tax) > small commercial lit firm > COVID > city attorney > in-house (real estate))

Anyone have any thoughts on a fair salary for a part time virtual tax prep-focused position? I’ve been made an offer for south of 800 hours/year (fluctuating for seasonal ebb and flow, of course), and I’m curious whether it’s a decent offer or not. I have 13 years of experience in a big box franchise where I’ve handled complex returns from day 1. 30% of my workload has been 1120/1120S/1065 and the rest higher-level 1040s and a few 1041s & 990s. I’ll be bringing 75-100 clients with me.
