When hiring, do you take age into consideration? Do you find that " younger" candidates ( maybe 25-35) get preferential treatment over those who are older? There seems to be a stigma that older hires for junior roles are seen as less innovative and adaptive.

I work in the U.S., where age discrimination against persons older than 40 is illegal. Does it happen? Sure. But I work hard to train my company’s managers to make sure it isn’t us making it happen.

Officially, we don’t consider age when hiring. For any reason. Unofficially, I think we all know that’s not very realistic. Depends on the role. For the more physical roles yes younger candidates or desirable.

Does anyone feel like it’s difficult to gain acceptance and find allies when you’re a POC? I have attended happy hours, social events, and lunches, but I am not getting the same amount of traction as the other new lawyers who are white.
