Exactly. People that think politicians are overpaid have clearly done zero research and thinking. Look at corruption as a factor and you immediately realize the right thing to do is to eliminate their opportunity to do anything outside of politics. If they are truly “serving the people” there is no reason they should be trading stocks and serving on boards of companies they pass favorable laws for.
With that said, they should easily make more than today while eliminating those conflict of interests. Our president is basically a CEO should not clear under a million
Oh god no - that’s a terrible idea. Voters will inevitably say that politicians should be paid less, either because they hate “the other side” or because of general cynicism.
But when you don’t pay your elected officials, the only ones left willing to do the job are the independently wealthy or the ones corrupt enough to seek out money through other means.
