Just moved here from nyc and it is def different but I am in the heights and it’s just not comparable! If you want a different feel from nyc (I did!) and it’s more affordable then you will like Houston. Lots of fun restaurants and bars too. Just totally different vibe
Nothing in Houston is going to compare to NYC. Midtown, Montrose, Heights are the most common spots for YoPros
Any culture that was in Houston is gone and had been washed and concreted over. Lots of restaurants and concepts here but not a lot of authenticity. I’m from here.
Ok Debbie downer... there’s always “that guy”. Unfortunately for you, things change. Doesn’t mean Houston is no longer “Houston”
Also to be one of the most diverse cities, you generally have to go to specific parts of specific suburbs to see true diversity.
But the areas mentioned are “diverse” in that you get the $200k+ per year households that are mostly white, with some brown and yellow sprinkled in and juuuuust enough black to make people remain comfortable but not enough to make them feel the neighborhood is going down.
EaDo also has a Brooklynish vibe (for Houston). Industrial, lofts, bars, restaurants, train line.
Seconding this. EaDo is your best bet, although it’s gonna be pretty tiny comparatively...
Brooklyn pre or post gentrification? The areas mentioned are very similar if you’re looking for former hoods that have been gentrified.
I second montrose and heights. I lived in the heights and loved it until covid and two kids. Now it’s the suburban life for me.
