I’m a second year associate and last night I was online until 2:30 AM waiting for one specialists comment to a purchase agreement. I had added all comments during the day from everyone else, and the midlevel and senior were online as well, but it seemed very strange to ask me to stay up just to add three sentences to a purchase agreement. Is this normal?

Did you bill for the time you stayed up waiting?

like

Exactly!!

I would have gone to sleep and added in the early am.

The agreement was being turned that night. No denying it was stressful, and I’m all for being a team player, but it was annoying that they couldn’t give me anything else to do. I offered/asked to help in other ways.

like

Nope. They just didn’t want to do it themselves (even tho it’s really their responsibility). That’s fucked up that they did that.

Damn, my bad

I’m so sorry you dealt with this. Certain groups (like certain groups at certain firms) are insanely disrespectful about deadlines. Others are great. Being this late on a deadline would not fly in my group.

Omg my comment does read like a specialist hater comment. I’m a specialist. One of the types that catches hate, too.

like

No. As a senior, if I had to be up anyway, I would have just handled it and told you to sign off.

Been in this situation myself. Ways out:
- let the senior / mid know that this is all you're waiting for and if they have anything else you can do in the meantime, because if not you're going to go home
- if they still keep you with nothing to do (also happened to me), shamelessly watch Netflix in your office without headphones and order food. Win either way for me as that's what I'd be doing if I was home anyway.

I’ve also gone to sleep and put my phone on loud

Nope. Not acceptable. I probably would’ve eventually gone to bed and woke up early. If they really needed it out that night then they could’ve done it themselves since they were online.

I’m a burnt out as hell third year though so I’ve become pretty jaded

like

Yes

No.

Honestly just watch some TV and chill it’s not that big of a deal (they probably didn’t realize you had nothing else you were working on bc you didn’t tell them that), and they were probably so busy with their own stuff (since they too were online at 2:30an that they didn’t think about it)

Staying up til 2:30 am for no reason is a big deal. Personally, I really need my sleep (chronic illness) so staying up when there’s no reason for it is a big deal for me.

I’m currently in a 1BR for $2400. Am I crazy to pay $3k for a studio in a much nicer building in the same area? My current building is trash and I realized having an updated kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room would be really nice, but not sure if it’s worth the price tag vs finding another place at $2500ish. I’ll be local for the foreseeable future even post-COVID

Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Question for funds folks, since no one is around to answer any questions and I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. Why can't a placement agent combine or integrate the offering of interests in the sponsor's fund with the contemporaneous offering of interests in another fund? Is it based on reputational risk or from a sales perspective in case someone rejects both funds, any other issues? Thanks!

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?
