Why is it that just doing your job is not enough anymore. I feel like you need to go above and beyond to even be respected a tiny amount. I find it crazy that a lot of managers / bosses cannot see that some people just like where they are and don't have an itch to climb the ladder!

I really relate to that. It does seem like if you're not putting on a show of being super ambitious, people just assume that you're phoning it in at your job. No, I'm doing a good job, at my current job! I'm just not interested in being a fanatic about climbing the corporate ladder at this point. Maybe later, when my personal situation is different and kids have grown a bit, but not now.

Exactly, if you are doing your job well then that is doing a good job in itself! I am the exact same, I will most likely want to grow my career in the future but right now it is not my priority, and that should be totally okay and accepted

Unfortunately we are in an employer’s market where there are more job-seekers than open roles. Companies can afford to be picky now and expect more of their employees.

Yeah it is ridiculous! It should be totally acceptable to just do what is in my job description. It should be up to me if I want to do more!

Climbing the ladder isn’t even worth it where I’m at. The money isn’t there for what the expectations are. For that, I’ll be doing my job as needed and be mindful of not overdoing it, because then that is just what's expected.

I am totally with you there. The money for me is not worth the extra stress and extra hours. It is not enough money to make that worthwhile.

Yep if you don't compete they will find away to let you go

100%! I got let go 2 years ago because of the typical 'restructuring'. It was all BS, they just didn't like the way I worked which was just doing my hours and my work well and no extra!
