Why is personal injury frowned upon?

Bc it’s very easy to become a grimy and greedy attorney in a practice area where you have a financial interest in a specific outcome of a case/claim. There’s no ceiling to how much money you can make, as long as you’re able to replace every client whose case finishes with more clients. The insurance companies have also done a fantastic job of painting PI attorneys as being “ambulance chasers” when in reality, if the insurance companies just paid out fair value on the claims that people filed, most PI attorneys wouldn’t even be in business anymore.

The good PI attorneys are actually some of the best attorneys you can come across because they not only are knowledgeable when it comes to the laws, but they’re also very knowledgeable when it comes to the medicine and what kind of treatment makes sense for their clients; they also tend to be great businessmen/women bc that’s why PI is. The most successful ones are also some of the best trial attorneys around, which is where the money is.

I love this.

I would say because of the volume and you’re not doing super sophisticated work with a lot of motion practice, etc. On the flip side you’re in court way more so PI attorneys are arguably much better trial attorneys than those who rarely, if ever, try cases.

like

I respect that, but I think if you want to be good at PI, the work is sophisticated. Novel theories of law, a good eye for medicine, and knowledge of medical conditions in addition to the trial experience. Getting around damage caps or making what seems like a simple car accident into a products liability case is imo just as sophisticated as big law. See the motion practice in this case for example:

https://www.law.com/dailybusinessreview/2022/10/10/lyft-to-face-jury-trial-over-app-flaws-in-precedential-florida-product-liability-ruling/?slreturn=20240003212355

The case overload is a real issue, and I think most PI lawyers underwork their cases because of it. But I disagree with what I perceive to be a perception that PI lawyers are less intelligent or skilled.

Plaintiff’s PI or defense or both?

Because the attorneys send clients to have their entire medical history treated, often including surgery, when someone stubbed their toe and claims it’s all related to the incident.

Also, it’s inherently frustrating when 50% of the job is antagonistic by nature, regardless of which side of the v. one is on.

I think people say they are ambulance chasers and honestly, some of them are. I just honestly think over the years it has been given a bad rap because of attorneys that only care about the money and don't really care about the clients.

Interviewed for Deloitte S&A Tech Strategy SC and got a verbal offer for Consultant instead. I negotiated the offer to 120K salary and 10K signing bonus. I’m a boomerang with 4 years ERP consulting but this past year I’ve been doing DEI Consulting. Spoke with former colleagues who rejoined Deloitte and got a much higher offer for SC. How do I go back to the recruiter to negotiate further? I suggested that I’d probably sign but need time to think. Now I’d like to go back and request 140k salary.

I have a dumb question... I have my first jury trial coming up in a few months. It's a 3-day auto accident trial. I'm the plaintiff attorney. My question is, should I have my client present the entire three days, or am I okay to tell them that they're fine to leave after they testify?

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.
