With so many companies pushing for RTO, I’ve been wondering—how much of a dealbreaker is remote work for you? Personally, I’ve gotten so used to the flexibility of working from home. No commute, better focus, and more time for family—it’s hard to imagine giving that up. But I know some companies see in-office work as essential, and I’m torn about how much I’d compromise for the right role. Is remote work non-negotiable for you? Would you accept a great job if it required you to be in the office full-time, or is that a hard pass?

The order I consider a job is remote > hybrid > onsite. On-site is if I really need the money and they are paying loads of it. I'd take it and leave as soon as I find another remote or hybrid job. For me a return to office just means a waste of resources only to get there and feel miserable. By the time I commute to the office which is 1 hour each way, my energy is already gone. Plus I'm distracted most of the time with other people than actually doing the work.

I have two young kids at home and wouldn't compromise on working remotely unless there was no other option. WFH makes my life manageable, and there's no amount of money that would be worth upending everything to head into the office 5x/week.

I cried upon RTO in 2023. I would rather WFH but new hire WFH jobs have lowers wages. Money versus peace and productivity are the determining factors. Good luck on your decision.

It’s a big consideration. At this point a lot of remote only jobs are not the best option, when compared to everything else. You will basically be giving something up to be able to work from home now. Even with that taken into consideration, it is still a high priority for me to remotely work. Really does save me a lot of money and time.
