I struggle with this now and I am sorry that you are, too. I think that we have all been there at one time or another. For me, what helps the most is when I get to work a little early, close my office door (or you could do this in the car before you go inside), read a one minute devotional, take some deep breaths, say a prayer and ask God to lead me where He needs me today and to help me to stay calm and focused, and then I look at a little post it on my desk where I have Galatians 6:9 written down. It says, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Also, I don’t know if you have ever tried Wim Hoff breathing or boxed breathing, but both are super helpful once you learn to do it properly. Try to watch your caffeine intake before your shift and don’t overdo it. I am the worst at overdoing the caffeine because I have such a hard time waking up, then I’m zooming and can’t concentrate. I hope this helps! I still don’t like my current job and I’m looking for something else, but doing my little ritual in the morning truly helps me so much and changes my mindset.
Well , anxiety and Apprehension unfortunately is something many Nurses ( and Doctors also) experience… while I Agree with the Many (tried and tested methods for coping with these Trials). One thing is for sure, know thy self “ … in other words… think it over before you start.. Sometimes just knowing that a certain patient ( someone very sick and fragile and demanding family can be taxing on our emotions. Perhaps try and think about “who you will be working with… ( sometimes start your day as pleasant as possible and this means saying a WARM good morning…. To Others it can be an Encouraging moment for us all…
Try not to give in to the stress For One Thing We are Blessed 😇 and THANKFUL for all “who have the courage… to do what we do.
Find a Cheerful or just a Positive Person at work…. Someone that smiles back at you
I am sorry to hear that. I have defimitely been in your shoes. I snap a rubber band on my wrist anytime I start overthinking. It helps me to stay present and not get anxious.
