Hello all, I work full time as an RN at the VA. I’ve been looking for a side hustle to do on my own time. I would love to review cases such as prior authorization, records for 2nd opinions, etc. The positions that I come across generally require a commitment of at least 24 hrs which is not feasible. Anyone know of any opportunities?

I'd check out various freelance sites, like Upwork. There may be projects on there that require a nursing background.

like

Seconding this. I've found a few side gigs on Upwork and love it because I have complete control of my schedule for the work I do through there. Upwork takes a hefty cut of your earnings, but you can raise your pricing to accommodate it (or take the work off-platform if you're willing to risk getting booted off it).

Unfortunately, when you put yourself in the position to work for other people and seek them out, you're kind of beholden to their timeline. If you can build your portfolio enough to where people come to you, negotiating is easier.

like

Have you thought about case management for insurance companies

like

I agree, check Upwork and other freelance sites. You might be able to negotiate with some of the places asking for a 24 hrs commitment, I'm sure they could use the help

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.
