I decided to move on from my job of 7 years, I had no days off, It was getting overwhelmed, I just wanted to spend quality family time, so I applied at another place and I was hired on the spot, so my old employer offered me what I wanted and I decided to stay, so my question is ….. how in a professional way do I tell my new employer that I not coming to work with them. I’m supposed to start by the end of this month.

Honestly, you dont owe them anything. Just give them your 2 weeks, and call it a day.

I had a similar experience and just called the HR department and told them exactly what happened. It happens more often than you’d think!

State it exactly how you stated it to us. It is reasonable to stay where you are if they
met your request.

I agree with the comments above. Just be honest with your new employer and tell them the real reason. You don't owe them anything as RN1 said.

Just politely told them that you are declining the job because your old employee is offering you what you wanted ..

I’m 25 and have been working for the same bank for 2 years. Started as a call center agent and moved into a supervisor role. Love the company but the pay is barely enough, I work 8-10 hours of OT a week to make enough for rent and living costs in Toronto (would work more but there is an OT cap). Any leads on jobs I should look into? Would love to be making upwards of 75k ideally. I have a BA and have done some python and SQL courses

The general rule of thumb for a mortgage is 28% (primary residence) of gross income. My firm switched up their process and now instead of nice size raises it’s large bonuses. So getting increasing my gross income doesn’t really change unless I include my bonus which is obviously a variable. Is their a recommended approach for these scenarios? Maybe use agi on tax return instead of gross income?

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??
