When I can have some say in the work or processes. I’m fully open to feedback when it’s constructive, and I can use it to be better. It’s not a lot to ask, but it can be a lot to find if you aren’t in the right place.

Having a voice in the work changes everything. Autonomy plus constructive feedback is usually where confidence grows.

Professionally I feel most like myself in a demanding fast paced environment where I am trusted to do what I was hired to do.

Trust is underrated. Being able to focus on the work instead of managing perceptions makes a huge difference.

When I’m given autonomy to use my expertise I thrive. I’ll come up with ideas outside of my job description when given the space and time to not just do my job, but come up with new solutions to problems.

Autonomy really is oxygen. When people are trusted, they don’t just perform, they expand.

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.
