Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I'd rather get their budget than give my expectations. But if they're stonewalling, I'll roll my eyes and give a range. That's usually about 10% above my target.
You can do your research, after surveying the market you can quote "I am looking for a compensation that is market average for my exp, and role and is (quote figure)".
Yup. Until you see an offer in writing with the exact position, start date, duties, expectations, skills, and everything you "couldn't possibly give an accurate range" that you are looking for. If they "would like to make an offer you would be happy to let them know if it meets your expectations based on your understanding or the exact role"
Sig your heels in. They are going to be uncomfortable asking.
Look on salary.com and job postings for similar roles in markets where they have to share band. Also Glassdoor. You can build up a range of expectations and give 10% above that
Might not have the budget finalized yet. Do your research, which you should do regardless. Then give a range. You won’t lowball yourself if you are giving an informed answer. If the scope of work changes, then you need to renegotiate with the new information.
