My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. We feel this is taking advantage of tenants during this time and may not be legal. Any advice helps!

I got really emotional after I read the article in bloomberg about it. We can finally have some justice in a country where people have often tried to downplay racism against asians.
