One of the most common suggestions you'll hear is to get a home group. That's the one meeting or group that you do your best not to miss, and the one that you'll have a commitment at before any other group. It's suggested that you attend business meetings and be a part of the group conscience.
When followed well, the traditions generally filter out much of the "polotics" that you may be fearing. We are a group of people with alcoholic thinking in various states of emotional sobriety. Things do come up on occasion that can cause mild resentment and/or egos to flare, but my experience had been that things always sort themselves out for the best.
Having a home group is that next level of connectednes, you get to be just a banana in the bunch, have a little more accountability, and more opportunity to give back.
Thank you so much, IBM1! That’s very helpful to know and will follow your counsel on home group too.
Not in my experience
Thanks M1
Not in my experience. If you do experience anything like that, find another group
Thanks GT1

What I realized, was that if I want to be included and I wanted to go from fellowship to friendship, I had to put in 150% effort. That means making multiple attempts at reaching out to hang out. That means going to meetings a little early or staying late to chat with folks. And saying “yes” when asked to go for dinner/coffee/etc. That said, not everyone is meant to be social friends with every other person, but if you sense a connection, don’t let fear get in the way of something cool.
Thank you, D1. Right, I am “tighter” with some groups other than my original home group and did have to put in the 150%. I was just wondering if there is group politics etc to watch out for. Which would apply in every context except that it’s difficult to imagine that it can be significant with a group like AA given our principles and values.
