Does anyone have experience with Ben Glass’s “Great Legal Marketing” programs? https://greatlegalmarketing.com
I ordered a free “starter kit” from his company and received a decent-sized box with some books and audio CD’s. Haven’t listened to the CD’s yet, but the books aren’t bad, with plenty of practical advice.
Now he’s running a promotion where you can get two months of his basic-level course for just $19.95 to cover the cost of shipping. It seems that Ben is one of the better-regarded legal marketing “gurus” out there.
Some days it be like that.
How dare you?

Internal production is much more post heavy - you'll find mid level editors/motion graphics folks at most agencies. The best are of course at post houses or freelance, former post house.
Directors/DPs aren't much of a thing. Some places have those editors also shoot/direct low budget projects but the best directors and DPs want to work on big budget projects with real crews and gear, so you won't find them on internal teams.
Typically there aren’t many agencies with internal rosters of directors/DPs because it’s not cost effective over the long haul. You’ll notice how agencies who tried it - like vayner - or publishers like BuzzFeed and Vox have mostly axed in house directors, and converted a bunch of their full time production people to freelance. The ones that survive are usually the ones that have another more billable skill.
Having worked with a number of internal directors at companies like those and others, I will say that there are plenty of talented directors that are perfectly capable of doing more than talking heads, stop motion, cheap social, etc. Agency folks love to rip the idea of “internal directors” being good at anything.
Mystical Unicorn. As in they do not exist. Internal is purely a revenue based scam. Most clients are savvy to the fact that internal is just a way of squeezing money out of them. If you’ve found yourself looking towards internal, it may be time to consider another career
Do you have contact details for Mystical Unicorn? Sounds like the ideal production company.
If you go internal as a director/DP, try not to stay longer than a year or two at most. You live or die by your reel and you need variety on it. It’s hard to level up to better work if your reel is all talking head corporate vids, stop motion animation of the same products in different configurations, or wall to wall work for one single brand.
I can't think of an agency with in-house directors. Might have to go to a production company. But even those tend to have rosters of directors and dps they pull from based on the project.
That may have come off as harsh, and I’m sorry, but you are better going in house direct to client
Internal work is for pitches, corporate videos, and on the rare occasion when the client has no money and needs a cheap social post.
Agreed content creator. But as a freelancer. You also fill in downtime with jobs and opportunity. Somewhere between full day rate and no day rate
My 2 cents agency’s turn their back on talented director/DPs. And more often bring up a wanna be or hire a colleague aka friend/ relative.
Any agency that was on the ball could bring in qualified people on a short term if necessary that would make great work. It’s a matter of having insight and applying creativity. Aka thinking outside the box.
