Haha, the paycheck drop is genuinely the adult version of checking if the Tooth Fairy came except it’s usually just disappointment wrapped in direct deposit.
Wildest one for me was early in my career: I opened my pay stub and saw an extra $8k sitting there as a “performance incentive” that literally no one had mentioned. I thought it was a glitch and almost emailed HR in a panic like “hey you overpaid me.” Turns out it was real. Some quarterly bonus pool that my manager quietly put me in for. Felt like finding money in an old jacket, except it actually paid off part of my car.
