If the moment has passed, and if it bothers you enough then you could go and speak to them about it and let them know you didn’t feel it was appropriate and especially as management of the firm. If you are not comfortable doing that, then just know that you now understand something about this individual (distasteful as it may be) that will influence your future interactions. It’s hard to know how to advise you not knowing more about the situation.... Also not knowing if you are making too much of something that wasn’t that big a deal really.... I wouldn’t recommend shooting your career in the foot over someone’s stupid comment and your interpretation of it.
Please feel comfortable raising your hand to a partner that displays integrity. Speak to a Diversity group leader champion about the situation. Please do not stay silent. Ethics and compliance, HR are all options. You do not need to seek for punishment of this person, but raise your hand bc its the right thing to do. I know it sounds corny.. but I look back at one moment I failed to do this in my career ... I do have a regret around that. I want to look back at my career and know I did the right thing for myself and others. Be better than most 💪🏽
What did they say? Is ethics and compliance and option?
