All of our appliances are starting to hit their end of life. Need a new dryer (prob should get a washer too), new vacuum, and new oven/range. We will prob be in our current home for another 2-3 years (maybe longer) and will need to leave appliances as part of our sale process. Any suggestions on

1.) which alliances to get

2.) ways to secure the best pricing through bundling, etc?

Not super price sensitive given it will be for a few years but don’t need to waste money on top of the line…

I’ve heard Costco has good warranties

like

I would 2nd Costco. Bought washer/dryer through them, had a minor issue and service to resolve was excellent.

IMO, get best buy total tech. Then get washer dryer, oven and range, with free install and haul away, included 2 year warranty, and a slightly better price. If it matters, best buy credit card can get you 0% financing for like 18 months for such a large purchase.

Get a Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid. For the W/D get top loaders, don't stack. For the washer, it doesn't need an impeller, so don't let that scare you off. Consider the W/D volumes so you can handle comparable size loads (it's not 1:1). For the oven get a convection oven (it has a fan, more even cooking). Gas or electric, whatever floats your boat, but research pros/cons and what makes sense for your connection/space. Matching appliances is so overrated. They all wear out at different times. The difference between the aforementioned brands is largely aesthetic.

During the year, if you have appliances that go out, take advantage of the free install and haul away through total tech. I have saved >$1000 according to Best Buy so far because this year I bought a fair number of appliances. Total tech is also useful more broadly, so worth reading about it.

We've got a best buy outlet near our place, saved a ton of dough getting washer dryer there at "open box - satisfactory" price ($250 below new) when there's an impossible to see scratch on the glass somewhere

EY, I used to have a front load washer but got so tired of the garbage building up in the gasket that I'm loving the top load tbh

If you aren’t keeping the appliances for longer than 5 years i’d stick with buying used appliances, think of it like buying a brand new set of tires for a car your going to trade in soon.

All the brands seem to suck any more. And most are made by the same 3 or 4 conglomerates. What used to last 20 years now seem to last 3-5 years, often breaking down outside the warranty period.

I bought a fridge and an oven recently. Spent hours reading reviews and still wasn’t sure if I made the right choice. The oven (GE Profile) will be arriving soon. The fridge lasted just outside the warranty period before the compressor blew. Luckily I bought the extended warranty and even then it took them like 4 trips and 6 weeks to diagnose and fix the problem.

Extended warranties are often scammy. But I recommend them on a appliances.

Consensus is Samsung/LG are trash. Hard to say about everything else.

like

So true. Thankfully we buy all the extra warranties even though it’s total bullshit that even the expensive ones do not last. Mom works at Home Depot and said never Samsung. But regardless of brand always get the extra warranty

like

A Consumer Products subscription is worth every penny. There can be vast differences between models of the same brand so blanket “this brand sucks, this brand are great” are wildly inaccurate.

Samsung/LG are pretty crappy.

I’ve bought a whole house of appliances at one time (old house needed it all new).

Used a combination of (all are Samsung)

Avoid Samsung fridges. We like our Samsung washer and dryer. We have a set at home and in our rental and have had no issues.

I’m a Bosch fan for kitchen appliances- especially for the dishwasher. Our rental and our home are all Bosch in the kitchen.

Stay away from Bosch kitchen appliances...Nothing but headaches

My one regret on appliances—-don’t buy a loud dishwasher.

I think buyers look at
1) is it premium or not ( eg wolf, Viking, subzero)
2) are they new/nice looking or not

Depends on what level the home is, but wouldn’t worry too much about what buyer will think unless you have a high end place that demands premium appliances.

Thank you all for the info here. Leaning towards just trying to get it all at Costco if the prices are comparable—we are a Costco family for sure.

Any reason to wait for specific seasonal deals or is now as good a time as any?

We own our place but will probably move in 2-4 years so I’m thinking whatever are the best reviewed models at a mid point from GE / Maytag. There’s another option to buy nicer ones, and then buy very cheap replacements to put in when we move and then take the nice ones with us, but that seems like a lot of hassle/risk of having to spend a lot on the service s side of multiple installations.

For the vacuum, thinking Miele canister vac since we can take it with us. We had a Dyson stick vac that we loved but it’s basically fallen apart after ~3 years.

GE appliances are now owned by a Chinese company. I do not recommend.

Just got the Bosch 800 dishwasher and it’s amazing. Wish we had gotten it sooner

Check out Best Buy and filter on 4+ stars for overall rating. Also, if you have the BB credit card and buy with it, you’ll get 15 or 18 months 0%. Should last you the 2-3 years until you move.
