Any advice or words of encouragement for those of us taking the bar at the end of the month? 😭

You get points for almost anything on the essays, including made up law and outlining. I passed with a healthy margin and my last essay was only headings and introductory sentences (NY JX)

Stay encouraged and remain focused. Try to avoid mass cramming. Know your study limits. If there’s a topic or concept you do not understand, go back and review it. Then try some practice questions regarding that topic. Don’t focus on how others are performing! That’s a distraction!

Don’t study the day before the bar. If you don’t know it by then you never will. Don’t talk to anyone about the test questions during or after you can’t change anything and it’s just going to make you second guess yourself. Get a hotel room within walking distance of the testing center if you’re not already within a 10 minute drive. Why risk unexpected traffic?

1) Don’t be afraid to go moneyball math up the exam. In Georgia it turns out that the 4 essays are only worth about 5% each, where the MPTs are 15% each.

2) read some model exam answers, if your state has them. They sound like they were written by drunk monkeys. You too can reach “drunk monkeys” standards with rules you just made up.

3) MBE is just about reps on questions. You’ll see your score creep up over the next few weeks as bar prep focuses more and more on the questions you routinely get wrong - you’ll start getting more right.

4) Day of, I just did bullet points on one MPT and basically wrote “idk what you’re on about” on an essay sub-question and still passed by a wide margin. If you’ve studied hard, you’ll be fine.

5) it never feels like you’ll be fine. This is normal.

The capacity of people to grow, learn, and achieve is quite simply amazing. You are a capable person who will achieve what you want to achieve. Do what is necessary and under your control and there is no point worrying about things outside of your control. Plus in a couple weeks it will all be over! Good luck!

like

Do what you can to study — the bar is no joke — but don’t beat yourself up too much if things don’t go as planned.
I didn’t study like I was supposed to and left a lot for the last week but then my dog died and I watched Netflix and cried in bed instead, ended up cramming well past midnight the night before (and still didn’t finish), totally missed an entire essay question, and still passed. (CA).
Whatever happens, you will be okay

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I was recently promoted, and now part of my team report to me. I'm now able to see their pay rates and I am honestly so disappointed in the company. Especially since we just gave annual raises in Feb, plus we can all see where the money is going and it's not to the employees. Makes me sick

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

My last organization haven’t paid the FnF money to me and many others. I left the org in July 2021 but haven’t received even 30% of the amount. There are more than 20 ex employees who are facing the same issue. No one wants to get involved in a court case and thus there is no pressure on the org. They keep giving excuses of pandemic/resource crunch etc. They hadn’t paid the govt TDS for many years so now all the new revenue is going to pay that. Any suggestions on who to reach out?

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
