Took me 9 months but I found a great role with a mgt team I know. After hundreds of conversations and dozens of interviews only received 2 offers. You are going to need to out in maximum effort to find a an attractive role. I was a Partner and came to McK as an external hire and had a very strong external network already
First, set your expectations on timing right: it'll take 12-18 months.
Go work your network - talk to anyone you can get a call with in your target role / area ("I'm considering a switch and wanted to know more about X"). Get DCSs to make introductions to clients.
Figure out your must haves and what's the spectrum for them (e.g., must have <5 nights a month away from home, but I'm okay if that's an average over 3 months).
My thoughts: Lower your comp expectations and be ready for it take much longer than expected
Fyi will take longer in this environment. Be patient and temper expectations.

Expect lower comp numbers than the previous years. It will truly be a WLB based move and not for the TC.

I’m still a partner, just at a different firm.

Would you be able to share why you’re leaving? I figured things would get better at the P/SP level especially as it’s considered the pinnacle of one’s consulting career
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I occasionally find myself wondering “what-if” I had stayed so this is enlightening
