Any insight on the Navy Yard neighborhood? Heard that it’s growing and can swing a little cheaper than the rest of DC.

It seems that all of the apartments are new and expensive, so I'm not sure where you are getting that info. It's cool, but there's no soul or real neighborhood vibe like Bloomingdale or Brookland. Depends on what you're looking for.

Navy yard seems like the place where people from Clarendon go when they’re ready to move across the river

EY1 why the hostility? It takes half an hour to walk to the closest metro and you get to pass a dozen strung out junkies at the BP every day. I witnessed near daily drug deals at 1St and U St and one huge drug bust by Metro PD. A 27-year old was murderer a block from where I lived and a yoga instructor was raped and murderer down the street during my time there. Don’t get me wrong, Red Hen and Bacio are great but I guess I’ll take the “douche bags” and a 5 min walk to the metro where I now live.

It’s a lot of fun.

Growing for sure, cheaper than an apartment in DuPont/Logan/Shaw

EY1 is right it depends on what you’re looking for. Just spent a year in Bloomingdale, might as well have lived in the VA burbs. You can find affordable places (relative to DC market) all over NW if you do your homework, but Navy Yard is certainly on the up. Happy hunting!

Moving to H street which I think still has a good mix of modern and neighborhood still

I guess what I’ve heard is that while they are expensive; you get more for your buck than maybe an English basement in a different area, say DuPont, for the same price.

PwC 1 - I lived in Bloomingdale for three years and it's very much a city atmosphere, not sure what you're referring to. It's not filled with douchebags like U St. or 14th, if that's more your speed.

PwC 1, it's not being hostile, it's stating a fact. Metro was ten minutes from my place so if you were in the far corners, yeah that would have sucked.

That's actually U St./14th.

I loved living down at the navy yard but it got very expensive very quickly. I moved up to Shaw and it has been 1000 x better in terms of price and atmosphere

I thought Shaw was pretty expensive as well?

Op it is. Way more than H street, Navy Yard, SE waterfront, Warf etc

It didn’t seem less expensive at all to me. Lots of new buildings that are for sure expensive.

Try Arlington areas right on the dc border like Rosslyn and Pentagon/Crystal city.. Much cheaper, more space, nice renovations, lots of great things in walking distance, and right across from metro. Metro to Capitol Hill is a 10 min ride. BF lived in navy yard and without traffic, drive was like 7 mins. You couldn’t really convince me to move to dc...

How do you best support your students who do not speak English? I have four ELL’s in my 6th grade ELA class and they don’t receive push-in or pull-out Bilingual support during my class.
