Do you want to do hands on turnaround work at relatively small PortCos or Corp Strat at the companies you have offers at? The day to day will be very different. What type of work do you enjoy more?
Def no regrets, it only opens more doors that you otherwise wouldn't have without the role
PE is hard and one of those things you should be jumping into with both feet because it’s kind of the exit
Can you move into similar Corp strategy jobs down the line? Probably. But moving to PE ops is heading down the Ops or portco leadership path versus big company strategy
As somebody above said, these are fundamentally different jobs and require different skillsets. Think about what you’re really good at it and enjoy
Lastly, carry sounds nice, but it’s a long term thing, if you don’t see yourself staying around for 3-5+ years it’s likely not materializing (depending on the model your fund deploys)
I like it a lot, but I’m also mid 30s and single. If I had a family, not sure I’d be doing this. Am gonna try to be the CEO of a portco by that time (assuming I can perform)
You’re thinking about it the right way. Life is a series of tradeoffs. Best of luck to you
Just curious - which option did you end up choosing and why?
no regrets. at LMM fund, having a great ride thus far. came from mck and various industry roles
