I like it here and would recommend it, though I’m in a practice that has been strong over the past few years. My individual perspective on your questions:
- Pay: lower than B4 at all levels. Bonuses have been low in recent years.
- WLB: solid, and this is the trade off versus pay. We are starting to ask more in-market or in-office days but it’s flexible and more of a guideline.
- current mood: again varies among practices but I think cautiously optimistic. We shed a lot of staff and while that’s really sad, we have a strong base left.
- career growth: I think it’s pretty good through the senior manager and associate partner equivalent. It is about to get more difficult to make the partner/MD numbers this year with some changes to how we count revenue contribution. I also want to note that we are less aggressive on early promotions due to budget constraints though.
I wanted to add one more thing. I have previously worked at B4 and felt lost. This is a firm of under 2000 people. There are layers of leadership here too, but easier to know most people in your practice, be entrepreneurial, and make an impact.
Nothing is perfect. This place isn’t perfect. But all in all I like the attributes I mentioned as a trade off for others.

Ball park partner comp - say 5 years at partner?
We pay far less cash than the others and partners have given up bonuses in recent years. For a five year, I am estimating something like low 400s base and maybe target bonus somewhere around 150 (with a range around that for performance) but expect 0-50% of target at the moment. There is good wealth upside for partners if MSD flips at a healthy multiple eventually but that is a long play.
So don’t come here for the cash is what I am saying.
I’ve always considered West Monroe to be one of the strongest boutiques. Poached two practice leaders from there.
I miss Sap.

All of the mid market / boutique firms pay about 50%-70% less than the experienced equity partner level so what’s the point, unless willing to take a haircut. If you’re an L4 at Accenture could be comparable, maybe L3 but that’s on the cusp.
