I think changing the behavior would help the most. The dog has trained you in a way. How often does your dog get exercise or activity? Your dog may have a lot of pent up energy.
He is 6. He loves the outdoors, especially when the weather is nice. It’s not about the mileage, but about how stimulated they are on their walks. My parents will occasionally take my dog for a sniffaroo walk and it can take them an hour to walk a mile.
Wtf I’d train that out of my dog..I can’t imagine them coming in and out every 2-3 mins. That with a doggy door would drive me crazy. And you’re the one opening it for them.
I’m not changing my dog’s behavior on this. He has the biggest smile when he does this thing of going out and coming back in. He brings all his toys out one by one and puts them in a pile outside. That’s why I am asking for recommendations of products or concoctions that have worked in your experience.
Thank you! I bought the magnetic thing and bait trap. I do on my own home and have a regular door that leads to the yard. That sliding insert is so cool!
The Zevo traps work really well. My pest control guy recommended them and he was right. They’ve really helped.
Ooooh I will definitely get extras then and put them by my back door. I didn’t know that they caught the larger flies. That’s so good to hear.
I have a double-pane sliding glass window that I leave open during the day and installed a heavy duty fly screen. I used high quality thumb tacks instead of double-sided tape which stripped my walls and lost tackiness quickly. Ever so often a fly makes its way in but rarely. My dogs can come and go as they please. I tried to install a high quality doggy door but realized large breeds (mine at least) aren’t fans, no matter the incentive or reinforcement. This isn’t a behavior that needs to be changed; it isn’t “bad” nor does it mean your dog has you trained. Dogs will be dogs. My dogs like to lounge outside at times, laying on their doggy cot or sunbathing or frolick in the backyard grass. It’s their world; I don’t mind if they do.
Mine is 75 pounds. May I ask if it was difficult for them to figure out how to use it or they just didn’t like using it because of the flap sound?
You’re exactly right. My dog loves to take one toy out, sunbathe with his toy for a short bit, get another toy and repeat constantly. This is his “me” time and I’m never going to take that away from him.
Doggie door that has sensors. Do you have a fenced in yard. My dream house has a back porch off office with a doggie door that the girls can go out and lounge in sun on deck. Most times they just want to lay in dirt and sun self.
The sensors will just open and close when he comes and goes. I know they make them just haven’t googled since my home isn’t set up for them to do that. Also I would make sure I could lock at for at night so a coyote or raccoon doesn’t come for a visit. I would a screened in covered deck with fan so I could sit out there and work on the nice days. Here the bugs will pick you up and carry you away
