Any thoughts on TD Ameritrade Institutional as a custodian? Used to NFS/Fidelity, TDA seems much more efficient and user friendly.

I wouldn’t spend much time investigating them as a custodial option, you’ll probably end up as a Schwab customer anyway, probably best to start there.

I was told Scwab bought them for the tech, which makes sense. I use TD personally (never had and issue) and I’ve heard good things from another planner I know about Schwab. My plans are on hold for now, but like that I have an option.

TD has been great for us. Not sure how much things will change when the Schwabitrade merger is finalized though..

Love TD!

TD>fidelity>Schwab IMO

Left the BD environment over 5 years ago and went to TDA Institutional - Has been a fabulous experience, thus far. Although, as already pointed out, at some point in the near future, TDA will be Schwab (even on the institutional level).

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?

Part of a BD now, thinking of going on my own as RIA. Costs would be about 50% less, which makes it seem like an obvious choice. Have a deep family friend relationship with current firm, though. I don’t want to burn a bridge, but am I crazy to be a bit upset that the relationship could keep me from doing what I think may be right? Really struggling with that part of the decision.

Working for a small RIA on 1099. I receive about 80% payout AUM and the firm covers port mgmt, marketing, and a client service rep. However no other benefits such as office, health, 401k, bonus. Stay?
