That withdrawal rate... the client is going to fire themselves.
He paid a penalty and a tax. That’s not someone you want to work with. I had someone do that and I just encouraged them to transfer to their bank account.
Had something similar a while ago. Made sure I documented the situation and that I strongly advised against, sent them a letter to the same, and said if I continued with the client my fees would only make a bad thing worse and ended it.
Hire a junior. Take the override.
In their best interest, redeem and withhold for taxes and penalty. The rest will be gone soon enough. Help them do what they want. At least keep the personal relationship intact, while documenting your advice against this move. If nothing else, you may get referrals. You can't protect people from themselves, but you can maintain your own standards, and level of care.
Agree. They are not serious about their retirement, so why do they need you?
Never care more about a client's retirement than they do. Send them an email saying they're being stupid and you're not responsible
