If they’re federal contractors (and pharmaceutical companies are) then they typically take it seriously.
Depends- my big pharma company did not test for thc. Being a federal contractor does not require testing, just that it is a drug free workplace. Hospital credentialing is actually the bigger issue with respect to testing.
They take it very seriously, especially when they have many options with all the laid off people applying for jobs. Best advice is to stop consuming anything with THC, get the job, pass the drug test and then return to weed.
My experience in private industry is the screeners will not report anything that is legal in your state, BUT it will depend on the job and the employer's requirements. Like some transportation industry jobs have to comply with various federal regulations around screening. Those are much stricter, and it doesn't matter if marijuana is legal in your state. It can't show up on your screening at all. Those are the kind of jobs that have random screening. At least some federal jobs are strict about it as well, but I don't know how broadly that applies across departments and functions.
