If, for instance, you fly 40 weeks of the year and spend 4 hours more each week than you would with nonstops, you’ve added 160 hours, or four entire work weeks, worth of time to your commute. Also, more flights means more potential misconnects, delays, etc., and you might have to leave home earlier outbound in order to get to the client around the same time.
It’s ultimately up to you, but in my opinion, nonstops with mediocre service are still better than elongated travel time with better service as I value my personal time at home. While I have done it very occasionally to avoid really undesirable aircraft (hi there every CRJ-200 ever made) I never enjoyed getting up earlier or home later or misconnects, dashing through terminals, etc.
If aim held overnight I’ll get a hotel room and get a good night’s sleep so that I can be my best at home when I get there. The other. Ugh R’s when my flight is incrementally backed up and the Delta lounge receptionists can rebook me through a different route in 2 seconds I really appreciate the double ply tp and snacks.
Did this when I was at KPMG. Was in first on pretty much every single flight. Worked in the lounges on connections and enjoyed the quiet, food, and beverages at the same time. I don’t regret it. Got everything into a rhythm and was productive, as well as travel days being so much more enjoyable than before. Service difference over AA/UA was easily worth it.
Known a couple of Delta people out of Chicago, but all had projects in Delta cities so few connections
Call American and explain. They way have a “reclaim your status” program. Worth a shot since AA is big in Chicago
