Thanks everyone for their input- a van it is. Here's a classic one for your time: the wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall to her... I said maybe.
Have four kids (fifth on the way) and have a minivan. It’s going to be a tight fit. My wife refuses to drive a suburban, which is good since she damages all the corners of our cars by scratching them on posts and stuff. Luckily she’ll only ever hit one car.
Had our second 5 months ago and kept our LX570 (big Lexus SUV), wife refuses to drive a minivan. I used to be the same way as well, sworn never to be a minivan dad, but every passing week i think about how convenient sliding doors would be and just having a car lower to the ground.
Our friends got a Chrysler Pacifica minivan - pretty spacious interior with lots of amenities. Rolled up to a casino for double date - no shame.
Toyota Sienna all the way. 4 kids, 14 years and 200k miles. My 15 year old is going to drive it to school next year!!! His choice! For the money you cannot beat it. Much easier to get kids in and out off when there young.
Sliding doors FTW.
Can’t beat the functionality and convenience of a van with two kids. No suv can beat that. Just get over the initial stigma and you will enjoy the van
Late to the game here but when the kids were younger we had 2 Toyota Siennas. Only issue was they weren’t great in the snow (2 wheel drive).
Yeah, I've been considering an AWD Sienna for that reason. Not needed many places in the country, but in places with lots of snow it definitely helps. currently driving Subarus, and would love if they made a minivan on the Outback chassis, as there are few AWD options for minivans.
I think if you asked someone to describe the perfect car—they would say they want plenty of room, comfortable seats, lots of convenience features, good mileage, and drives like a nice car should. When you tell them that car exists and is called a minivan they be like “oh h*ll no!”
Was in same place a year ago. Went with cx9, good choice. Third row but still looks like a midsized stylish suv from outside.
6-2 so shouldn’t be much difference. I did recall reading it in one review when we looked at it but not all of them or anything...seems to only affect some guys
Love our VW atlas. Being able to tip the middle seats without removing three across car seats to access third row is a killer future. Moving down south soon and will need a second car. Will probably be a van.
Had 2 vans and now a third row highlander. Vans are just so incredibly functional. Mid-sized SUVs just can't get close to the space of a van. Theonly way to get the same functionality in a SUV is to get a full size, but you're spending twice as much as the van.
I’m still nursing my Mazda CX-7 with 3 kids. Wife has an infinity with 3rd row. When my car dies I’ll get a minivan so I can be good weekend dad. On the road too much to bother paying for a nice car right now.
I love my Honda odyssey. It’s a 2008 EX-L Bought it in 2010. Still going strong at 160,000 miles. At first, we just left the back seats down and didn’t even bother folding the stroller - just put it right in. I like how it’s so roomy and just runs well. No regrets.
If there’s any possibility of 3+ kids, definitely go with the van. Even for just 2, I highly recommend. Easier to get into/out of (sliding doors) and more space in the back for all the stuff. Trust me there’s loads of stuff
I was very much against a minivan. I have now had three. We have 4 kids and you just cannot beat the sliding door for getting the infant carriers in and out. Once the kids get older we will probably get an SUV but the utility of the minivan is amazing. We have had the Toyota Sienna they have been great.
Be wary about the seating. I have a Chrysler pacifica with the stow and go seats and love it. Some minivans you have to remove the seats from the van, or they don't come out at all, like the Kia.
4 kids here and 5th on the way.. minivan all the way.. issokay, I make minivans look cool.. IDC what folks be saying.. I can put all the kids and a dog plus their suitcases and go for a trip, turn around, fold all seats flat and fit in a 24inch fridge and close the trunk.. gets 27mpg.. Love my Chrysler Pacifica. only regret is not getting the hybrid...
