Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I mean, he DID murder and rape ....
I'm actually proud of students recognizing Indigenous people and their role in history...it includes them in the narrative, which has always been the "white savior" or Spaniard in this case. Columbus paved the way for global enslavement. Once we talk about that and come to grips with how it has played out historically...then we are truly teaching our students to be empowered.

Personally I think it's easy to excoriate people in the past for doing things that in our present time are obviously wrong.
It's much more difficult to evaluate people fairly based on the context in which they lived.
As to the disease charges, it's pretty silly to blame Columbus for that. It's not as if he tried to infect Native Americans. Introduction of infectious diseases novel to a new area inevitably leads to outbreaks among people who haven't been exposed to it before. It's a tragedy so many died from diseases they had no immune protection against. It's also kind of silly to blame it on the "bad Europeans."
Nearly all early explorers engaged in behavior which we see as wrong (and I believe as a Christian, is morally wrong no matter what time period). We shouldn't hesitate to look at the horrendous deeds of the past, but we must also seek to frame an entire picture and not only negative things. That's too easy.
Are you being sarcastic? Yes, CC was a brave explorer. Yes, he stole America from indigenous people. Yes, he aided in the spread of disease that killed many people. Yes, it led to hundreds of years of the government trying to "tame" the American Indians and force them to give up their heritage and go to schools to learn how to be white. But hey, let's celebrate discovering a land that was already inhabited and directly contribute to harming the people that live there.
Nope that’s the first time for everything. Interesting.
