I am 30 and considering it - been in commercial real estate my whole career, considering other areas of the industry or a more traditional finance role. What has been somewhat successful for me is being extremely selective on specific roles (has to have responsibilities that are somewhat transferable or things I’m naturally good at) and firms that have a reputation for hiring outside the industry.
If you want to do a bigger pivot than that, I recommend considering professional certifications that could signal serious interest in switching or grad school.
I used an MBA to pivot from tax compliance to strategy consulting. I think the MBA def gave me credibility but already having a business background helped (I studied accounting in undergrad). Was 30 going on 31 when I started in consulting.
What field do you want to go into? What do you do now?
