At the end of the day, I feel like it will change the landscape, but we will be adapting as that happens. We (probably) aren’t going to wake up one day and have AI totally taking over. We will improvise, adapt, etc. I think the overuse of AI hurts a lot of customer/client perspectives.
Really good point! Best to not worry and just be prepared
Coach
Not what I work on (my title is very misleading) but AI needs to be a tool for content creation before it can replace it. Right now, despite what people say, it’s quite decent at writing copy in the paid for versions, as well as analyzing simple/moderate level data questions.
Ime it still takes a sledgehammer approach to SEO where it wouldn’t pass most of googles best practices. And it obviously still has issues generating imagery, but the reality is both of those areas are areas where it will improve in the future.
In my opinion, the only way to be “safe “from AI is to be a generalist manager. Someone who understands all the levers of marketing and can oversee them while keeping in mind the big picture as the AI does the work.
General manager is where I am hoping to be soon because I agree with your points! Better to be the expert on how to implement rather than the person who is being replaced
It's a very real fear. I'm already seeing a decrease in job availability because of it. I have leaned into AI to make sure I have the skills that will be useful in the future. I've especially focused on paying attention to AI patterns that way too many companies are using and make things feel stale to avoid falling into that trap.
No, I stil think there are elements of this job and others that AI is not going to be able to replicate. AI still has its issues and I don't see it fully taking over the way people think it will
Fingers crossed
I haven't really seen any amazing AI creations for the average person, I think Coca-Cola is a good example. Even though the AI was flawless when it came to things like no one having seven fingers, I can see AI getting better at that. But I feel like you can always tell when someone uses it, and it often turns people off. AI is still very formulaic. It's essentially guessing an answer based on stats and patterns, so it can never create something truly unique or original. It's just taking the human aspect out of things. Now, we communicate like robots, and that's accepted because people like efficient solutions, but I think there will be a significant shift where big brands stop using AI for things like Instagram captions, and others will follow. Once we’re fed up with AI, we'll crave more authentic, human-driven content. Always on a pendulum.
Ready or not, AI is changing the way we work. It’s best to learn how so you can adapt and grow with it. I’m old enough to know life before the internet. I keep myself relevant by staying educated.
I think if you view AI as more of an "automation tool" then it seems less scary. Automation is all it is. And with these new tools of automation come new ways to adapt and evolve for our industry. Someone will always need to be steering the automation as it won't be doing it on it's own.
That’s a great perspective, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here!
