That’s going to be a rarity. It’s a slog to get into the equity partner pipeline process so I doubt anyone would drop out willingly.
Someone left one month after getting elected so it does happen sometimes. Folks get great job offers and jump very soon after election occasionally. It is rare though.
Some plan it that way. Sometimes the promotion is offered as a transition step to a client VP or above, such as at a large tech client. Your firm lost nothing and gained a client executive. The individual got a prestigious title on a resume for life that makes it easier in the future - always a former BCG MDP.
I was more referring to if you got an offer to lateral and chose not to go. But these are helpful nonetheless

I have seen some Big4 partners get cold feet once they realize that this place will be very difficult to integrate into. Just completely different culture and expectations for partner engagement
Currently at a large US asset manager and have been offered two MBB equity partner roles. One at my former firm, and another at a competitor. More money in those roles than my current one.
Declined both. Happy to talk via DM as to my reasons, but basically around the fact that platform development is becoming harder and harder, and the cards are firmly stacked against direct entry partners (as opposed to those who have made it through organically).
