Anyone with a family have to travel every month or so for work? What do you do to stay connected with/help your spouse back home?

I’m away this week, have two trips next month totaling about a week, and then another week long trip in May. Will have some smaller overnights the remainder of the year and will have a weeklong international trip in the fall.

Watched one of my sons cry on the camera this morning while my wife struggled with him, and meanwhile I’m staying in literal luxury. Guilt.

We both travel, two 3 year olds. The parent who will be on the road sets the parent staying home for success, meal preps, takes trash out, does laundry, etc. Also the parent traveling makes sure to give the parent staying home time to themselves the evening before travel. Lastly, just checking in and acknowledging helps, (and never mentioning fun after work events, how how work was, etc.)

I also have two 3 year olds plus a 20mo. The worst thing this week is that my wife and all 3 of my kids are sick (including ear infection) and we had a pipe burst last week so our upstairs kitchen is closed off for water damage mitigation (hopefully finishing today). So I basically left a shit show at home. Unfortunately it is a trip I’m unable to miss or reschedule.

I traveled about 75% of the time for about two years when my kids were small. The one thing that is not negotiable is that you need to be present for your family when you are there. A few trips here and there is not a big deal and your family will survive.

This looks like a topic more for the parents bowl. Anyway I traveled 45 weeks out of the year every year. My wife became a SAHM and we cut back on living expenses - we figured it out,
